Taking care of Twinkle goes beyond just feeding her and ensuring she gets enough exercise; it’s also about maintaining her hygiene. Just like humans, dogs need regular grooming and baths to stay healthy and feel their best. As much as I love seeing her run around and play, keeping her clean is just as important for her overall well-being. Twinkle’s hygiene routine is a mix of regular baths, brushing, and a little extra attention to details that keep her looking and feeling great.
Bath Time: Keeping Twinkle Fresh and Clean
Bath time is an essential part of Twinkle’s hygiene routine. Since she loves to run and play, she often comes back with dirt and dust on her fur, especially after our outdoor adventures. I make sure to bathe her regularly, but not too frequently, as over-bathing can strip her coat of its natural oils. Typically, I give her a bath once a week or whenever she starts to smell or looks particularly dirty. For her baths, I use a Neem-based dog shampoo that protects her from ticks and fleas. Neem has natural antibacterial and antifungal properties, which are perfect for keeping her skin healthy while also acting as a gentle repellent against pests. This shampoo also helps keep her coat soft, shiny, and free from any skin irritations. I always make sure to rinse her thoroughly to avoid any shampoo residue, which can cause irritation.
When bathing Twinkle, I’m careful to avoid getting water in her ears, as her floppy ears can trap moisture, leading to infections. I make sure to gently clean her ears with a soft cloth and ear cleaning solution, which is an essential part of keeping her healthy.
After her bath, I towel-dry her carefully and let her air dry. During winter, I use a blow dryer on a low, cool setting to speed up the drying process, but I’m cautious not to overdo it and make her uncomfortable. Once dry, her coat is soft, shiny, and smells fresh – just how I love her to feel.
Brushing: Maintaining Twinkle’s Coat and Skin Health
Brushing Twinkle’s fur is another important aspect of her hygiene routine. It’s a daily activity and she enjoys brushing. Regular brushing helps to keep her fur looking smooth and shiny, prevents mats, and removes loose hair and dirt.
In addition to brushing, I check her paws and nails regularly. Beagles are very active, and their paws can get dirty during walks or playtime. I wipe down her paws with a damp cloth after each walk, which helps keep her from tracking dirt inside the house. I also keep an eye on her nails, trimming them when necessary to prevent overgrowth. Her ears are very long and need attention as well; I make sure to clean them regularly to avoid any buildup of dirt or wax, which can lead to infections. Keeping her ears, paws, and nails in check ensures she’s always comfortable and happy.
